About Annie Robinson

Counsellor, Therapist, Supervisor

I am passionate about my work as a counsellor and the process of therapy. I bring diverse experiences from earlier careers, my own family experiences and my life interests. I am keenly interested in the links and integration of mind, body and spirit, our relationships with each other, with our world, and through artistic expression. I love the ‘great outside’, and the sense of connection that being in 'nature' can offer. Similarly, I am constantly in awe of the transforming potential that therapy can bring and the privilege of being able to share this with others.

With experience of working as a counsellor in organisational settings, I have worked as an independent counsellor since 2003. I have worked with organisations for contracted occupational health counselling provision (EAP). Having a former employment role in student counselling (at UWE), I have a breadth of experience of working with young adults. For a number of years I worked with the Bristol branch of Cruse Bereavement Care giving me in-depth experience of working with grief and loss. Much of my experience comes from being a therapist working in private practice, seeing clients - both individuals and couples, with a very wide range of issues, who have come through self referral, work referral or on recommendation of others.

My work has been deepened through workplace experience as a counselling trainer. Between 2005 and 2012, I worked as a tutor / lecturer for counselling diploma training at Network Counselling & Training, and at the Universities of Bristol and then University of Wales,Newport. Until recently I was a tutor for the supervision diploma run by SevernTalking Therapies, and on a more ad hoc basis I do some organisational training on counselling related topics.

My core counselling training - a postgraduate Diploma in Counselling (course accredited by BACP) – was at The University of Bristol (2003), which I later converted to an MSc in counselling research (Bristol 2009). I have undertaken subsequent training, including two years part-time study completing a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Embodied Relational Therapy in Leeds, an approach highly influenced by body psychotherapy (www.erthworks.co.uk). My relationship therapy training has been with Inter-action Training and Consultancy, a COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Counsellors) approved training course. My supervision training was initially with Cruse Bereavement Care and extended through two Masters modules on individual and crearive group supervision at the University of Bristol.

In recent years I have been interested in developing my skills and experience in working with clients who have experienced trauma. I completed two years of a webinar programme on the 'Neurological Legacy of Working with Trauma' with Janina Fisher, Center for Integrative Healing, Massachusetts and in 2016 I undertook a training in a neuro-therapeutic technique called Eye Movement Integration (EMI) which I often use as part of my psychotherapeutic work with clients for whom this is relevant.

In addition to these I regularly undertake short courses, workshops and reading to update myself (my Continuous Professional Development).

I provide counselling and psychotherapy for a wide range of presenting issues and am based in  North Somerset, on the city boundary with Bristol; my practice is in Long Ashton, North Somerset, within easy reach of many parts of central and south Bristol: Southville, Clifton, Ashton Gate, Hotwells, Totterdown, Knowle, and Windmill Hill; and the North Somerset towns & villages of Backwell, Nailsea, Failand, Wraxall, Flax Bourton, Pill, Abbott’s Leigh.
