What you share with me in our work together will be treated as confidential, and will not be shared with any 3rd parties. There are however some standard professional exceptions, which I would discuss with you at an initial meeting. My work is informed by the BACP Framework of Ethical Practice.
Time & PlaceIndividual therapy sessions are 1 hour and generally take place at the same time and location once a week. Relationships therapy sessioons are up to 90 minutes long. Sometimes I provide telephone counselling if it is difficult to arrange a regular, face-to-face meeting.
Cancellations and missed sessionsMost frequently counselling is a regular weekly commitment, as momentum and the amount of contact affect the progress of your therapy. I would appreciate early notice of any possible cancellations or periods of holiday leave. Sessions not attended or with less than 24hrs notice are likely to be charged.
How long will the therapy need to be?This really does depend on what you are bringing and looking for. Typically short term work is between 6 and 12 sessions. Longer term therapy might be 30+ sessions, and for in-depth exploration, considerably longer. Many clients come for around 15 sessions.
